- Elton John and Tim Rice wrote most of the songs in the Lion King musical.
- The Lion King has won six Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Scenic Design for a Musical, Best Lighting Design for a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Direction for a Musical and Best Costume Design for a Musical.
- The tour versions of The Lion King are very similar to the original Broadway production. However, several small adjustments had to be made to accommodate the touring crew. For example, several scenic elements that rise out of the stage (pride rock, the grasslands) had to be converted to less expensive versions. Also, the sun is smaller in the tour versions of Lion King.
